The Farm and Forest Festival at the Morningside Nature Center in Gainesville, FL is an annual festival which represents a market day on an 1870's farm in rural North Florida.  Floridians in the 1870's had a tie to the land, both the fields they tilled and the forest surrounding them.  This festival celebrates and honors the important cultural and historical contributions that these early settlers made to Florida.

Freespirit Emporium participated in the 2006 Farm and Forest Festival for the fourth consecutive year this year.  Among other items available on our website, we offered several varieties of our handcrafted soap for purchase by visitors to the festival.

Weapons of the Civil War

Life was hard for southerners after the Civil War.  Factories, rail yards, farms and homes were in ruins.  Southern soldiers returned home to a disrupted economy and social chaos.

Both Northern and Southern soldiers migrated to Florida because much of the state was spared the devastation that much of the South sustained during the war.
